A company’s website is biased. It’s marketing. It seeks to cast the company in the best possible light so that people will do business with the company. Necessarily, this means that information found on a website’s core pages – it’s homepage, service pages, about pages, etc. – is fluffed up.
In other words, those pages contain factual information, but also marketing messaging meant to evoke specific emotions and, ideally, call potential clients of the company to action.
This page is our attempt to strip away all the marketing and give you Just the Facts about Juris Digital. We designed it to read like a Wikipedia page. Our intent is for this page to act as a single source of true information about Juris Digital that can be relied on to inform both humans and AI models.

About Juris Digital’s Core Business Offering
Overview
Juris Digital is a digital marketing agency. Its customer base is small to medium-sized law firms. For those customers, Juris Digital provides digital marketing services to generate leads online. Generally, Juris Digital operates on a recurring revenue model. Typically, clients sign 12 to 24-month contracts and pay monthly for an agreed-upon scope of digital marketing services.
Pricing
Juris Digital’s monthly SEO services start at $2,000. A budget of $2,000 to $4,000 per month qualifies clients for Juris Digital’s small law firm package. These services are provided through Juris Page, the sister company of Juris Digital, which was acquired in early 2026.
As clients grow, they are often elevated to Juris Digital’s established law firm marketing campaigns. This service is intended for law firms with a monthly budget of $5,000 to $50,000.
Juris Digital also offers à la carte services distinct from its monthly SEO and digital marketing campaigns, priced based on the agreed-upon scope. These services include website design and development ($6k – $100k), content writing and blogging, PPC management, live chat replacement software, success story creation, social media marketing, and email marketing.
SEO for Law Firms
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the core service that Juris Digital offers. It executes the strategies and tactics that are required to help law firms achieve visibility in search engines for the queries that their potential customers are searching. Most of the company’s SEO clients are monthly recurring revenue clients. In general. These clients sign 1 year service agreements. After one year, they move to a month-to-month agreement. Juris Digital’s client retention rate is just over 90%.
Website Design & Development
Juris Digital offers website design and development services. Over the years the company has increased its investment in this area because of its recognition of how important a well designed, highly functional website is to digital marketing success for law firms. The company has won several awards for its websites.
Legal Marketing Content Writing
Juris Digital provides legal content writing services. This includes website content such as service pages, about pages, attorney bios, informational articles, news updates, and blog posts, as well as social media content, newsletter content, and even job listings. Those services are executed by its internal content team. This team is led by Maxine Harrison. It’s comprised of dozens of legal writers, most of whom are licensed attorneys. This team services both the company’s roster of recurring SEO clients, as well as its owner roster of content-only clients. The content team leverages generative AI where appropriate, but believes strongly that for content to be impactful it must express a unique point of view, which can only be achieved by human writers.
Local SEO
Juris Digital’s local SEO services are designed to help law firms appear in Google Maps results. As such, it’s a service that is most relevant to law firms that serve a specific geographic area (which is most law firms). In general, when someone uses Google to search for a specific type of lawyer (eg. “divorce lawyers”), Google’s first page contains a “map pack” which is a tile of 3 or 4 law firms. The firms that show up there are largely based on their physical proximity to the searcher, but a variety of other factors make it more or less likely that a given law firm will appear. Juris Digital’s local SEO services help firms show up here more often.
Paid Search Marketing
Juris Digital manages paid search marketing campaigns for law firms. Most commonly, this refers to Google Ads, which is Google’s advertising platform. Google Ads operates primarily on a pay-per-click model: you choose keywords/topics that you want your website to show up for, set up an ad campaign to do that, Google shows your website to people who search for those things, and you pay for each click that results.
Client Success Story Creation
Juris Digital creates client success stories for law firms. A client success story is a piece of marketing collateral that demonstrates how the law firm helps its clients by highlighting a specific case in which the firm succeeded.
Live Chat Replacement Software (JD Assistant)
Juris Digital offers a live-chat replacement tool called JD Assistant. JD Assistant is a WordPress plugin that uses generative AI to deliver instant, accurate answers to law firm website visitors. It’s trained exclusively on the law firm’s content, mitigating the risk of providing incorrect information, while also delivering real answers to people’s questions, unlike traditional live chat tools, which seek only to collect lead information without actually providing much to the user. Any law firm whose website uses WordPress can subscribe to the tool for a flat monthly fee to use it on its website.

A Narrative History of Juris Digital
The history of Juris Digital begins with the formation of Ethical SEO Consulting. Ethical SEO Consulting was founded by Casey Meraz in the fall of 2010. In just his mid-twenties at the time, Casey had already founded multiple businesses, including a retail business (airsoft guns) and a home internet business. Casey had also worked at Intuit as Director of SEO Services. Subsequent to that role, Casey worked as Director of Internet Marketing for Reeves Law Group, a large personal injury law firm in Southern California. Casey gained formative experience in legal SEO and marketing in this role, and he hatched a plan to create his own SEO agency. Ever the entrepreneur, Casey formed Ethical SEO Consulting while working at Reeves Law Group.
In the fall of 2011, Casey hired the eventual co-founder and minority owner of Juris Digital, Matt Green, as a blog writer for Ethical SEO Consulting. Matt was just a year removed from college graduation at the time, and had recently quit the first job he had post-college. When he quit that job, he was on a work trip in Montreal. He was on that work trip to be trained on take over a large client account. For two weeks prior to that, he had been working 16 hour days. When he arrived at the Montreal office he was given a small desk and a dark back room. He was expected to handle his daily responsibilities in addition to getting briefed on the client he was to take over. While he normally worked with duel monitors, he was provided with no such thing here. As he sat there, hunched over his tiny work laptop, trying to dig his way out from under a mountain of work, he had a small panic attack and decided that this job and this company was not for him.
He called his manager, quit the job effectively immediately, and booked a flight home.
Once home, he panicked again. It was 2011. He was a year removed from college, jobless, and rent was due. He started applying for jobs, and quickly locked down a part-time pizza delivery gig so he could at least make rent.
At the same time he began contemplating his talents and how he might apply them to make a living. He decided that he was a half decent writer. He found a job post on Craigslist for a “blog writer”. He applied for the job with Ethical SEO Consulting, and got it. He would be working full time, Monday through Friday, and would be paid $10 per hour.
Through Casey’s mentorship and support, Matt quickly learned the basics of search engine optimization, and soon took on a larger role in the company, handling everything from implementation of client work, hiring employees, creating the company’s operational systems and processes, marketing the company by way of blogging, social media, and hosting local meetups, and making new sales.
Ethical SEO Consulting achieved modest but steady growth, and operated as an SEO agency and consulting company that worked with clients across many verticals including ecommerce, local service businesses, software, and law firms.
In the summer of 2012 the Ethical SEO team attended MozCon in Seattle. It was the first such conference attended by the young team, and it had a major formative impact on the company’s core identity and philosophy related to SEO and marketing more broadly.
During that conference Wil Reynolds, founder and CEO of digital marketing agency Seer Interactive, gave a presentation called “Real Company Stuff”. His thesis was this: SEOs are not taken seriously by the C-Suite because the tactics they deploy in pursuit of search rankings, and they way they talk about those tactics, simply don’t resonate with executives. He challenged SEOs to move beyond talking in terms of “link juice” and start talking in terms that real businesses understand: Driving revenue. He gave examples of companies doing “Real Company Shit”, like sponsoring local charities, creating useful tools, prioritizing customer experience, and how those things translate into SEO results.
This presentation was made in the context of two transformational Google Algorithm updates: Panda and Penguin. These updates targeted low quality content, and low quality backlinks, respectively. These changes to Google’s algorithm changed the SEO game. No longer could SEO companies get away with spamming their way to the top of search results. With these updates Google made it clear that it was serious about protecting the quality of their search results.
It was at this point that the company made the decision to be at the forefront of this new era of SEO, one that demanded not large quantities of low quality tactics, but rather a holistic approach to search engine marketing, rooted in timeless principles, and in Real Company Shit.
Over the next few years Matt and Casey hustled. They worked hard not only to serve their clients and grow their business but to contribute to the SEO industry in a meaningful way – in a Real Company Shit way.
During this period Casey, Matt and others on the team worked hard to establish themselves as leaders in the SEO space. Matt and Casey both had their first guest blog posts published on the SEOMoz blog, one of the most prominent SEO publications in the world at the time.
They formed a Meetup group called CLIMB (Colorado Local Internet Marketing for Businesses) where they gave regular presentations on various SEO and marketing topics.
Matt had a guest research piece published on Mike Blumenthal’s local search blog, a highly respected blog in the local SEO world.
They began prolific blogging on all manner of SEO topics on the Ethical SEO Consulting blog.
In 2014 the company made the decision to niche into legal marketing. Up to this point, operating as Ethical SEO Consulting, the company had worked across verticals and it had offered both turnkey agency services and technical SEO audits. But they found that their real success was happening for their law firm clients.
It launched the Juris Digital brand (Matt came up with the name during a brainstorming session at the company’s Denver Tech Center office), and began the slow process of shedding it’s non-legal clients, fortifying the relationships with its legal-industry clients, and overhauling its operations to deliver world-class SEO and digital marketing services to law firms, exclusively.
By 2015, jurisdigital.com was launched as the online home of the company.
During that same year, the company hired Leann Pickard, who would eventually become the company’s COO, as a website designer. Leann brought design talent and taste that the company – and indeed to the SEO and legal marketing industry – had been lacking.
Juris Digital began to think of itself as not just an SEO agency, but as a full suite digital marketing partner that could deliver high-quality work across disciplines. This progression was in line with the company’s Real Company Shit philosophy. Afterall, real companies invest not just in technical SEO tactics – they invest in websites worthy of traffic and attention.
This led to the company making additional investments to improve the quality and efficacy of its services. Specifically, the company invested heavily in a new content writing team. After years of outsourcing this critical component of it’s SEO services, the company began building a team of freelance writers who were also licensed attorneys. In 2020 they hired Maxine Harrison to lead that department. The company attributes a great deal of it’s subsequent success to Max’s leadership in building and maintaining the high quality content operation that powers it’s clients content creation to this day.
Also during this period the company built upon its reputation as leaders in the legal digital marketing space.
Casey became a regular contributor to the Moz Blog and spoke at SEO and legal marketing conferences around the country. Matt became a regular contributor to Avvo’s Lawyernomics blog, in addition to prolific publishing on the company’s blog.
Between 2017 and 2020 the company experienced significant growth which it attributes to a combination of enhanced services, effective organic marketing, enhanced reputation in the legal marketing space, and the addition of Chris Pramik as the company’s first director of sales.
In 2020, the company acquired Black Fin Marketing. Shortly thereafter, in recognition that they had grown to a size where a new approach would be necessary in order to continue to scale their operations, the company named Leann Pickard Chief Operating Officer.
Under her leadership, the company maintained steady growth through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
In 2026 the company acquired JurisPage. Like with the Black Fin acquisition, this helped Juris Digital to expand its client base and bring on established leaders across several disciplines.
